‘Pulling Together’ was commissioned be Vector Fine Art Prints, an image that is just a little bit different than the norm, but encapsulates all the ambiance and nostalgia of the era. I managed to resist the temptation of making the Spitfires too large, as this would have detracted ones attention from the main composition subject, the horse and cart.
This I feel is a very good point to make… although the horse and cart are a lot more dominant in the composition; the relatively small Spits are just as important. The appreciation of this phenomenon helps to bring out the narrative of the scenario and helps to balance the canvas. I do feel one of the most important elements of any aviation painting is to be able to tell what sort of aircraft it is, and in some cases, don’t worry about them being rather small.
